THE FACTS:
15th Annual Festival: February 16-18, 2011

Drama to comedy, zombies to super-heroes, The Magnolia Independent Film Festival offers something for everyone.  Mississippi's oldest film festival, "The Mag" was founded in 1997 by local filmmaker Ron Tibbett.  Ron was born in Chicago, Illinois but was lucky enough to move to the Golden Triangle in the early nineties with his wife Dr. Charlotte Magnussen.  However, upon completion of his second film, "Swept Off My Feet", Ron was dismayed to learn that there were no Mississippi film festivals in which he could showcase his work.  So, he started one.

Fifteen years later, The Magnolia Independent Film Festival offers a venue for local artists to have their work seen by film-lovers across the Golden Triangle area.  It also strives to bring to our community the best independent film from around the world in hopes of establishing and nurturing a life-long love of cinema.

Mr. Tibbett was killed in a car accident in 2004, but his legacy carries on through the dedicated efforts of Dr. Magnussen and local volunteers.

Held each year in mid-February, the Magnolia Independent Film Festival, the state's oldest film festival, is a celebration of the spirit, honesty, and creative vision of independent filmmaking. In 1997, Founder/Director Ron Tibbett was searching for festivals in which to enter his film, "Swept Off My Feet." When he came to the "M's," Ron noticed Mississippi had no such festival. So, he created one.

Now in its 15th season (and its 4th to be sponsored by the Starkville Area Arts Council), "THE MAG" has developed an outstanding reputation as a filmmaker-friendly festival. Filmmakers are provided with lodging, meals, parties and transportation as part of their film being accepted to THE MAG. For the official line-up and more information, check out THE MAG website at www.magfilmfest.com.
