Frances Thompson

Artist Statement: Frances Thompson knew from a young age that she wanted to pursue art and began her formal training right out of high school. She received a diploma from the Maryland Institute of Fine Arts, studied under Lamar Dodd at the University of Georgia, and lived out a dream of artists around the world: studying at the Art Students League of New York.

Focusing on portraits in pastel, Mrs. Thompson began traveling around the south to do commissions. Though pastels were very popular with her work, Mrs. Thompson made sure she was versatile in her subject matter and mediums. Her art ranges from portraits of houses done in watercolor to landscapes in vibrant oils.

Based in her studio in Starkville, Mississippi, Mrs. Thompson works steadily to continue developing her life’s passion.
