Many individuals, businesses, and organizations supported the 2009 Art in the Garden tour on May 16. Through their efforts, the arts were promoted in our community.
Around 200 garden visitors braved uncertain weather that morning, and they were richly rewarded. Through their participation, tour goers helped raise $3,600 for SAAC scholarships and grants and other SAAC-sponsored events related to the arts.

Garden owners Pam Jones, Judy and Thomas Loftin, Carol and Jim Read, Nina and Chuck Rivenburgh, Linda Jo and Larry Templeton opened their gardens for all to enjoy, enthusiastically sharing their beautiful settings. Through tireless work and despite spring rains, their delightful gardens were prepared to perfection. Many people commented on the variety of gardens, making the tour more interesting.

Artists Barbara Walker, Betty Jane Chatham, CeCelia Bowden, Kathryn Ramsey, Diana Lyon, Jeanette Jarmon, Bill Andrews, Briar Jones, Laurie Burton, Amy Richardson and musicians CiCi Zhang, Stuart Herring, John Robert Arnold, Bessie Bell, Verner Ramsey, Wallace Killcreas, Ed Swann, Joe Jordan, Eric Abbot, Ellen Boles, Danny Holland shared their creative talents with garden visitors. Their presence in the gardens, which inspired and entertained, added great value to the tour.

Clover Leaf, Green Thumb, M’Lady, Oktoc, and Town & Country garden clubs and the Oktibbeha County Rose Society greeted visitors and provided refreshments. Master Gardeners volunteered in the gardens, donating their time to help identify plantings.
Art in the Garden is truly a team effort. The event couldn’t occur without the help and responsiveness of the Starkville community.
The AITG committee urges you to mark May 15 on your calendars for the 2010 Art in the Garden tour, which promises to be another interesting tour of Five Notable Starkville Gardens.
